The Power of Memory

The power of the human memory is truly commendable. We are able to store vast amounts of information which can be retrieved by us in the blink of an eye. Our memory has served us well for millenia and continues to do so. However, in recent times, due to the technological advancements (another adverse effect of technology forthcoming; there are probably gazillions these days!), the need to recall something is getting reduced.

Memory has always been one of the more fundamental aspects of our brain; we are able to recall certain details about things and information that we have been acquainted to in the past. An interesting thing to note is that the brain remembers something by analyzing the last time that the thing was known, so progressively, the memory of a certain past event dwindles with the passage of time.

Memory is our pal; its because of memory that we are able to organize quizzes, workshops, debates, discussions and competitions that show-case the brilliance of the human intellect! But, due to recent advancements, we are relying more on technology rather than our brain power to remember past events. This doesn’t effect our brains much on the short-term, but on the long run, it’ll have a profound adverse effect on our memory, cognitive and logical skills. We need to use our brain, and use it often, so, all these programmes designed for competition, thinking and pure brainpower are good for the brain!

With the world engulfed in a technological revolution, it has become much more important for us to uphold our values and characteristics which define what we are- Human beings. We are not slaves to our inventions; rather, we evolve with the help of our inventions and consolidate our old, genuine characteristics such as brilliance in memory, thinking and creativity. Thus, it is a very important aspect of our lives, and the power of the human mind and memory, canot be underestimated.
