Life may Exist on Pluto

Recently, the New Horizons spacecraft had a rendevous with the dwarf planet Pluto. It revealed a young world, where even glaciers are present. It might be too cold to harbor life on the surface, but, according to “rockstar” physicist Brian Cox, the glaciers on Pluto’s surface hints that a subterranean ocean is present under the surface of Pluto, pretty much like that on Europa!

The first question one might ask is, where does the heat, which allows the life, if there is any, come from? The internal composition of any heavenly object is far hotter than it’s surface. So, the heat source for these hypothetical oceans could be the heat produced inside Pluto. How would this heat be contained? Well, Ice is a bad conductor of heat. So, the heat will be forever trapped inside the object, because, the surface of Pluto is frozen at chilly temperatures of more than -200 degrees Celsius!

So, because of this, Brian Cox, physicist at the Universe of Manchester, suggests that there might be life swimming in an ocean under the surface of Pluto! If it were found to be true, it could hint that life is as abundant in the universe as grains of sand on a beach!
