Expectations, Mistakes, Dreams and Reality

Reality and expectations are two wholly different things, yet they can be brought together to co-incide. So, what are expectations? Expecting something basically means the belief that you can do it/ you can get it/ you can overcome it. I can expect to become an astronomer in the future, but is it always necessary that these expectations will really come true, no matter how certain you think you are?

No, expectations rarely result in the desired result in reality. Take a classic example. A person who has done poorly in the first examination rarely does well in the upcoming examinations. Now, there might be people who might be looking to have an argument with me over this matter, but hey! You guys are special! Apart from the special few, it is very hard seeing people who really get what they expect.

I’m not meaning to hurt anyone’s feelings. The thing is, everyone can really achieve their expectations. The main difference between that person with a special spark, and that mediocre person who expects a lot is that while they might have equal expectations, the more “special” person will get it done, whereas the mediocre one won’t.

So, this raises a question. What do you mean by a “special” and “mediocre” person? Well, a “special” person in this sense is one who does his work diligently, with proper effort and with dedication. A “mediocre” person takes everything for granted and keeps on believing that he will gain success. Yes, belief is one of the important ingredients for making sure your expectations are fulfilled, even surpassed! But, think of this, can only baking powder make the bread? Without wheat, it is impossible to make bread! No matter how big a container of baking powder you have, without wheat bread cannot be made! Similarly, no matter how much you believe you’ll fulfill your expectations, you won’t actually be able to do it without hard work!

Yes, that’s where the humans are lacking. Hard work. In the times of the Internet and one-touch mass communication, it is very rare to find good-quality, credible and authentic pieces of work, may it be at the school level, or the university level. The people who come up with such pieces of work are the “mediocre” ones in this case. They dream big, act small. But, those who do their work properly, even if they dream small, they act big. Acting bigger than what you dream is always the moral of a human life.

Some of your dreams and expectations might never be fulfilled. But, you should never lose heart. Keep on trying until you have lived your dream. If you haven’t placed expectations upon yourself, or you haven’t dreamt of anything, do it now! Push yourself, and always remember this: The greatest human beings that ever walked on this Earth have always made mistakes, and many have been unable to fulfill their deepest expectations and dreams. But, with their selfless dedication and passion, such great souls have more than made up for their failures.

Human beings have always made mistakes, are making mistakes and shall always make mistakes. Yet, the extra-ordinary ones will always learn from their mistakes and move on, where as the mediocre will cower in their shadow, wondering what they have done wrong, when they should have wondered what the extra-ordinary ones did right.
