With an asteroid set to pass close to the Earth, it's time I explain why near-misses with space rock send chills down the spine of everyone who's concerned with astronomy and explosives. Asteroids may be small, but it is no doubt that they are tremendously dangerous. If you don't think so, well, with some luck, … Continue reading The Threat of Asteroids to the Human Race

Asteroid watch!
An asteroid worth 3 trillion pounds is passing by the Earth today at around a million miles away! Conspiracy theorists are quick at work saying that it will hit the Earth, which probably won't happen, unless the rumors I heard about some company sending a spacecraft to mine it is true, and something utterly wrong … Continue reading Asteroid watch!
Nix!
This is a picture of one of the smaller moons of Pluto, named Nix.
Pluto’s Mountains!
The mountains which I posted about a couple of days back have been named in honor of the Nepalese mountaineer Tenzin Norgay Sherpa, who was the first man, alongside Sir Edmund Hillary of New Zealand, to scale Mount Everest!
More rendezvous!
The Juno spacecraft, which was launched in 2011 for the giant gas planet Jupiter, will reach Jupiter in less than a year. It is scheduled to slip into orbit around the gas giant next year on July the 4th!
Some Fantastic Data!
The press conference yesterday afternoon (American time, in Nepal it was midnight!) yielded some fantastic data about the Plutonian system! It was discovered that the Plutonian atmosphere, which is predominantly Nitrogen, was being "excited"(ionized) by particles from the Sun, called the "Solar Wind". The Solar Wind is this vast radiation of sub-atomic particles, mostly electrons by … Continue reading Some Fantastic Data!
Exoplanet Update
A Jupiter-like planet has been found orbiting a sun-like star. By "like", I literally mean that they are nearly identical. What's more, scientists are expecting more planets in the vicinity of the target star. The planet in question is around the star HIP11915 and is also far-out from its host star, unlike the "hot-Jupiters" that … Continue reading Exoplanet Update
Cassini’s New Horizons farewell
This photo was taken by the Cassini spacecraft, which is currently in orbit around Saturn. It depicts the vastness of space and how lonely spacecraft are out there.
New Horizons continues to amaze!
New Horizons simply continues to amaze us with the amount of discoveries it has made. NASA is holding a media briefing at 5pm GMT to release more images of the Dwarf Planet's system.
History Folks!
