Pluto pictures galore

In the past few days, spectacular new images of Pluto have been received. Although newly received, these photos were taken on the day of the closest encounter: 14th July. Here are some of the pictures:

Some haze can be seen on the surface of Pluto. There are also mountain-like structures, canyons and geographical landmarks comparable to those found here on Earth. The Sputnik Planum, which contains the now famous Heart shaped structure, was also photographed in considerable detail by the New Horizons space probe.

The glaciers on the surface of Pluto have also been widely photographed, and this world, which was up till very recently largely unknown to humanity, has been thoroughly probed by the spacecraft.

As you can see, mountains can be seen in this picture, which is a bit hazy. There are also some signs of the atmospheric haze, which was very apparent in the previous pages.

There are glaciers galore in this picture. There are signs of a younger landscape in this picture. It looks as if it has been newly formed.
