Political Anxieties and Its Effect on Students

Politics. The typical students nightmare. Its pretty much hard to understand when you’re studying it (except if you have got a great teacher)! But, the nail in the coffin regarding political situations and its effects on students comes from the turmoils and anxieties that are occurring within the city, region, state, nation and so on.

Recently, there have been nationwide strikes and closures throughout Nepal. Why did it happen? Well, something which was supposed to bring peace backfired and started this chain reaction. All the dominoes are currently well on their falling ways. This something was a draft for the implementation of a new constitution, something which Nepal has been begging for the last few years. Yet, the demands of some societies were not meant; they refused to improvise and therefore there have been these strikes and closures.

So what did it do to us students? Well, school years are already reeling from the Earthquake break which occurred shortly after the start of the new school session. Educational Institutions are finding it hard enough to complete their academic sessions within the stipulated time periods. Then, come these strikes. We are currently in the middle of examinations; so are many other students. Its a very damning experience having to read different subjects each and every day without the exam even taking place.

Some students do not even have this facility. They are forced to drudge to their schools to give their examinations; even in times of political and national strife. Recently, around 20 policemen were killed in the far-west region. This caused national outrage and rightly so! What type of people, no matter what their needs are, goes around massacring people who did so much during the rescue efforts just four months ago?

The Natural Disaster should have unified our nation. Yet, in its direct aftermath, the contrary is being seen. The Political anxieties show no sign of abating. Leaders in Nepal are constantly criticizing members of the youth community who seek life elsewhere in the world, either for jobs or for education. Well, if you want your youth to stay, why not give them a proper environment to stay? No doubt, some of this isn’t the governments fault. But, isn’t it the intrinsic function of a central power to make sure that its control over its citizens and protesting groups is maintained and done well?

With the ongoing Political frailties and the ongoing aftershocks, both of which show no signs of abating in the near future, the year 2015 has proved to be a catastrophic year for Nepal and for its citizens. There are new rumors every hour about new strikes, or even new earthquake predictions that have no basis. Its safe to say that lives are not in optimum at the moment.

Thank you.
