Flowing ice and a surprising extended haze are among the discoveries made by the New Horizons spacecraft recently. In a news conference yesterday afternoon in america (translates to late night here), NASA announced the finding of an extended haze and flowing ice on Pluto’s surface.
Scientists were hoping for surprises with the New Horizons mission, and they were not disappointed. Extensive plains, geological features such as mountains, methane ice, nitrogen ice, an atmosphere, haze, flowing ice and its stark difference to the geology of Charon were some of the highlights of the mission’s epic flyby of the dwarf planet and it’s system. What’s more, it showed us that Pluto really does possess a magnificent heart and not the doom and gloom we expect from a celestial object named after the god of the underworld!
