In Memory..

On this faithful day, all those years ago in 1969, history of epic proportions was made. Two men, namely Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, descended to the Lunar surface, and planted the American flag. 20th July, 1969. It was the day of the lunar landing.

The mission was so close to fatality. Had it not been for Buzz Aldrin’s ball-point pen, the Eagle Lander would never have been able to take off again. We were saved that day due to our dreams, our ambition, and most of all, by our conquests.

After taking his first step on another world, Neil Armstrong remarked:

It’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.

This quote has remained with Humanity and touched us ever since. Apollo 11 was the spacecraft that took these men to the moon. We should also not forget the efforts of Michael Collins, who had to stay in isolation, orbiting the moon. Since the Apollo missions, we have been able to glimpse images of the whole Earth in one picture, a feat impossible from the ground. The Lunar landing led to increased concerns about the environment, as well as an awe to what other worlds might contain. 20th July, 1969. The day shall forever be of significance for our young civilisation.
