Zum Geburtstag Viel Gluck Nikola Tesla!

Nikola Tesla. Many of you have never ever even heard of this guy. Yet, he was one of the most brilliant scientists of all time. It is said that when Einstein was asked, “What it felt like to be the smartest man in the world”, he replied, “Ask Nikola Tesla”.

Nikola Tesla was born on 10th July 1856. He was one of the greatest inventors and electrician of all time. He discovered the Alternating Current, which defeated the Direct Current in the “War of the Currents”, which basically refers to the battle for widespread use between the two forms of current. He is well-documented in his dislike for Thomas Edison, who sided with the Direct Current. Some sources say he was not given a Nobel-prize because he would have had to share it with Thomas Edison, and this was something which he didnt want.

He experimented with radio, wireless technology and a host of other futuristic ideas of the time. He even built a tower which could have supplied free electricity to the public! (It was later demolished due to budget cuts). He wanted to make an interconnected world where everyone had equality in exchanging information and learning.

In his time, Tesla was not regarded as one of the greatest minds. However, researches conducted in modern times point to the fact that this guy was a genius. He was pretty much a master mathematician and was one of the most inventive minds in the 20th Century. The SI unit of Magnetic Flux density (the measurement of the strength of a magnetic field) is named after him.

So all in all, a very Happy Birthday to one of the most underrated minds ever to have been born in our tiny little world.
