A beautiful result of the recent Coronal Mass Ejection from the Sun. This is called the Aurora Borealis (Borealis because most Auroras in the northern hemisphere are only visible in very northerly latitudes, where Boreal forests thrive). It’s southern counterpart is called the Aurora Austrialis.
Auroras are caused by particles of the Solar Wind entering the Earth’s atmosphere. Auroras frequently occur when large outbursts of Solar Winds (called Coronal Mass Ejections) occur. The bright colors are caused due to the Ionization of the gases in the atmosphere by the charged solar particles.
